KNM Govt. Arts & Science College, Kanjiramkulam has two NSS units (24 A & B) running at present with a sanctioned strength of 200 volunteers. It aims at the development of personality and a sense of participation in the process of nation building through community service. The unit resumed its activities with the NSS motto “Not Me But You” that “reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other person’s view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings”. The units implemented all programmes proposed by the university, including general programmes as well as seven days residential special camp.
All important days were observed and different competitions were conducted.

NSS PROGRAMME 5th June, World Environment Day Celebration
Due to covid pandemic situation, volunteers were instructed to plant saplings in their home premises. They also gave awareness to their neighbors on covid and also distributed masks

NSS volunteers celebrated Independence Day at the college.
NSS PROGRAMME 14th September, “Swapna Bhavanam” Project
Under the initiative of the NSS volunteers of the college, a house was constructed for a student of our college. The student was selected considering several factors after forming a committee. This student had no other means including Govt. support to construct a home. The house was handed over on September 14th by the MLA of Neyyatinkara Constituency Shri. Ansalan

NSS Unit 24 A&B conducted a talk on “Blood Donation during Pandemic” on 12th of October 2020. Mr. K.P Rajagopalan was the key presenter of the topic. He was an acclaimed person in the field of blood donation and awareness field. Mr. K. P Rajagopalan is the President of Federation of Indian Blood Donors Organisation (FIBDO) and Vice- President of All Kerala Blood Donors Society (KEBS). Dr. V.K Anuradha, Principal of GKNM college has chaired the session and reiterated the importance of blood donation especially during pandemic period.
The National Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year on October 1 to underline the importance of regular blood donation, and to express gratitude to blood donors for their gifts that help to save numerous lives every day. Due to the current pandemic that has disabled large scale social interaction, NSS Unit of KNMGC has decided to run a virtual campaign this year. The talk will help to understand the need for blood donation, what is meant by blood transfusion, and how you can make the day more meaningful for your community. The talk extensively explained about the protocol that a donor needs to follow before during and after donating blood including diet, habits need to be avoided, safety measures etc. Talk gave focus to the urgency of blood donation during pandemic because of the unavailability of even the most available blood groups. The talk explained in detail about different types of blood donations like autologous blood donation, apheresis blood donation, direct, paid, replacement and whole blood donations. The talk was live and interactive.
Another important presence was made by Mr. Byju Nellimood, who has donated blood 142 times till date. He was also inspired students by his presence and wishes. Number of questions were asked like age limit for blood donation, blood donation and women, blood donation and its health benefits, those who can and cannot donate blood, persons with life style diseases and their blood donation benefits etc. Dr. Aruna U. NATIONAL CONSTITUTION DAY OBSERVANCE 2020, Govt. Arts and Science College, Kanjiramkulam NSS UNIT 24 A & B
READING THE PREAMBLE OF THE CONSTITUTION OF INDIA
69 Volunteers of GKNM College participated in the constitution day observance November26th of 2020. Programme officer has given voice message regarding this and spoke about the salient features of Indian Constitution. Volunteers have read the Preamble of the Constitution and some students have given voice message by reading the Preamble.
NSS CAMP 2020-21
This year NSS conducted an online camp for the volunteers. This was a 7 day camp with several sessions. Morning sessions mainly consisted of message of the day, News of the day and explaining the day’s activities. Second session was an interactive session of experts or resource persons on different topics. Final and third session was about analyzing and interaction with the volunteers about their assigned home activity for that day. From 8pm to 9pm, cultural activities were conducted by the volunteers. The volunteers conducted a survey about Covid 19 and its impact and submitted a report.
In addition to the above activities NSS volunteers were sent for various activities and training programs namely palliative care, leadership camp, youth for development by Nehru Yuva Kendra. As part of palliative care the NSS volunteers gave Rs 3000 to cancer patient for chemotherapy. Several cleaning activities were conducted in the campus premises.
