The WALK WITH A SCHOLAR (WWS) is a New Initiative of the Departments of Collegiate Education and Higher Education, Govt. of Kerala. It is a mentoring programme for selected undergraduate students in government and aided arts & science colleges. Its objectives are to provide necessary orientation to needy students so that they can prepare themselves for employment and to provide guidance, motivation, and mental support to identify appropriate areas for higher study as well as employment. To this end, 30 first year students are chosen every year, thereby taking the current cumulative total of mentees at KNM Govt. Arts & Science College to 90 across all three years of the undergraduate programme. WWS offers the mentees internal and external mentoring, mock tests, motivational visits, and study materials. While select faculty members of the college function as Internal Mentors, External Mentors are personalities of proven merit from both public and private sectors. The WWS programme in the college stays remarkably active by nurturing the students to discover their true potential. In 2015-16, in addition to the regular components of the programme, the WWS unit of the college conducted a 3-day non-residential area specific workshop on Civil Service. The workshop was enriched by distinguished personalities like Dr. Reju M T IAS, Ms. Veena Madhavan IAS, and Sri. Aneish P Rajan IRS. The unit also organized an interaction session with Sri. Rishi Raj Singh IPS and a panel discussion on ‘Higher Education and Career Opportunities in English.’ Acknowledging the efforts put in by the unit, in 2015-16, two mentees (Miss Tibiya T and Miss Saranya B S) were given the opportunity to represent the college at the WWS State Motivation Camp (FOCUS). The final chords of 2015-16 were struck with the Motivational Visit of the second year mentees to the Pondicherry University and the Valedictory Ceremony on 21 March 2016. The activities of the WWS unit of the college in 2016-17 were flagged off by Sri. A Hemachandran IPS. In the current academic year, apart from the set components of the programme, the unit is conducting a 15 hour training course in Interview and Group Discussion Skill Training. Accordingly, the training of the first batch is in progress and that of the second batch shall commence in November 2016.
