KNM Govt. Arts & Science College, Kanjiramkulam has two NSS units (24 A & B) running at present with a sanctioned strength of 200 volunteers.  It aims at the development of personality and a sense of participation in the process of nation building through community service.   The unit resumed its activities with the NSS motto “Not Me But You” that “reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other person’s view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings”.  The units implemented all programmes proposed by the university, including general programmes as well as seven days residential special camp.

All important days were observed and different competitions were conducted.

 

NSS Report 2021-22

In the academic year 2021-22, NSS unit of Govt. KNM Arts and Science College, conducted several programs for the NSS volunteers to improve their leadership quality, enhance their commitment towards society etc. The following were the key programs conducted.

  1. Celebration of world environment day collaborating with Govt. Arts and Science College Kulathoor: Mr Shibu K Nair (India coordinator GAIA and director Thanal) gave the keynote address.
  2. Prevent Anaemia campaign was conducted on 12th June and our volunteers took a lead role to spread awareness to prevent anaemia in the college.
  3. Pos-poss talk series presented by Debashish Chatterjee conducted in collaboration with several institutions in presence of Shri P Vijayan IPS. Selected NSS volunteers took part in the talk series. This was conducted every month
  4. June 19th to 25th was celebrated as reading week with speech competition, book review, discussion etc
  5. In connection with world population day (July 11th), NSS volunteers came up with a message on population control
  6. Blood was donated by the NSS volunteers associating with the blood donor’s society
  7. 75th Independence Day was celebrated in college under the leadership of NSS. Volunteers took part in several competitions which were conducted as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
  8. NSS unit conducted a wisdom session on National Teacher’s Day – 5th September 2021. Dr Raji V R Psychologist, Educator and trainer led the session.
  9. 25th September was celebrated as National NSS Day. Our NSS unit arranged a talk of Akhila Sree L (winner of Kerala University best Program Officer). Our volunteers took part in several celebration conducted by Kerala University in connection with the NSS day
  10. On 28th September, Ms Veena M environment educator gave a speech to our volunteers about relation between environment and butterflies
  11. As part of palliative care programs, this unit has sent 4 NSS volunteers for the palliative care training program in October
  12. Our NSS volunteers took part in different cleaning sessions conducted in the college premises
  13. Our NSS unit has sent 2 volunteers (a boy and girl) for leadership training camp conducted by Kerala University
  14. Our NSS volunteers conducted a relief drive at Ponmudi tea estate. NSS volunteers of the collected food items and other essentials 45 food kits were distributed to families in the tea estate. The volunteers donated 250 books to the Ponmudi Govt. LP School.
  15. International Human Rights Day celebration on 10th October was celebrated by the unit. The NSS unit conducted speech competition, message competition and talk by Dr Manoj Krishna (Retired professor Govt Law College)
  16. From 26-12-2021 to 1-1-2022, Annual 7-day camp Athijeevanam was conducted with 6 different sessions, including awareness program and cleaning drive at adopted village, setting up of a kitchen garden at camp premise, releasing e-magazine, releasing a survey report on covid 19 pandemic. Sathyaraj NSS district coordinator inaugurated the camp presided by our college principal, Dr V K Anuradha. As part of the camp, the several talks were conducted.
  17. National Award winner for public speaking Mr Prajith Nirbhaya, write and critic Dr Bettymol Mathew, Psychologist Dr Mridula Nair B, NSS national trainer Brahmanayakam Mahadevan were the dignitaries who conducted the sessions.
  18. The college celebrated Republic Day under the leadership of NSS unit
  19. Our selected NSS volunteers took part in assisting the police for Attukal Pongala. They were part of a task force by name friends of police. The key activities included crowd management and covid protocol implementation
  20. Another important program of NSS was Kurunnu Vayankku Kaythangu completed distribution of 750 books to different Govt. schools
  21. 28th February, National Science Day was celebrated by NSS with different programs which included debates, science quiz and invited talk by Dr Shyam Mohan (researcher in UK) on the topic application of light in Medicine
  22. On 8th March 2022, women’s day was celebrated by conducting women’s day message competition and a talk by adv Bhuvanendran Nair on laws on women’s right
  23. On 11th March our NSS volunteers gave a general awareness session to newly trained volunteers This was done by Dr Vasanth Krishnan S, master trainer Naiter, my coach and people facilitator.
  24. On 11th March, our NSS unit contributed food kits, walker and other health supporting devices costing Rs 20000 to the Kanjiramkulam health centre as part of our palliative care initiative.
  25. On 18th March 2022, invited volunteers and program officer has received letter of appreciation for our palliative care activities from Pro VC of Kerala University.

NSS PROGRAMME 5th June, World Environment Day Celebration

Due to covid pandemic situation, volunteers were instructed to plant saplings in their home premises. They also gave awareness to their neighbors on covid and also distributed masks

NSS volunteers celebrated Independence Day at the college.

NSS PROGRAMME 14th September, “Swapna Bhavanam” Project

Under the initiative of the NSS volunteers of the college, a house was constructed for a student of our college. The student was selected considering several factors after forming a committee. This student had no other means including Govt. support to construct a home. The house was handed over on September 14th  by the MLA of Neyyatinkara Constituency Shri. Ansalan

            NSS Unit 24 A&B conducted a talk on “Blood Donation during Pandemic” on 12th of October 2020. Mr. K.P Rajagopalan was the key presenter of the topic. He was an acclaimed person in the field of blood donation and awareness field. Mr. K. P Rajagopalan is the President of Federation of Indian Blood Donors Organisation (FIBDO) and Vice- President of All Kerala Blood Donors Society (KEBS). Dr. V.K Anuradha, Principal of GKNM college has chaired the session and reiterated the importance of blood donation especially during pandemic period.

The National Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year on October 1 to underline the importance of regular blood donation, and to express gratitude to blood donors for their gifts that help to save numerous lives every day. Due to the current pandemic that has disabled large scale social interaction, NSS Unit of KNMGC has decided to run a virtual campaign this year. The talk will help to understand the need for blood donation, what is meant by blood transfusion, and how you can make the day more meaningful for your community. The talk extensively explained about the protocol that a donor needs to follow before during and after donating blood including diet, habits need to be avoided, safety measures etc. Talk gave focus to the urgency of blood donation during pandemic because of the unavailability of even the most available blood groups. The talk explained in detail about different types of blood donations like autologous blood donation, apheresis blood donation, direct, paid, replacement and whole blood donations. The talk was live and interactive.

Another important presence was made by Mr. Byju Nellimood, who has donated blood 142 times till date. He was also inspired students by his presence and wishes. Number of questions were asked like age limit for blood donation, blood donation and women, blood donation and its health benefits, those who can and cannot donate blood, persons with life style diseases and their blood donation benefits etc. Dr. Aruna U. NATIONAL CONSTITUTION DAY OBSERVANCE 2020, Govt. Arts and Science College, Kanjiramkulam NSS UNIT 24 A & B

READING THE PREAMBLE OF THE CONSTITUTION OF INDIA

69 Volunteers of GKNM College participated in the constitution day observance November26th of 2020.   Programme officer has given voice message regarding this and spoke about the salient features of Indian Constitution. Volunteers have read the Preamble of the Constitution and some students have given voice message by reading the Preamble.

 

NSS CAMP 2020-21

This year NSS conducted an online camp for the volunteers. This was a 7 day camp with several sessions. Morning sessions mainly consisted of message of the day, News of the day and explaining the day’s activities. Second session was an interactive session of experts or resource persons on different topics. Final and third session was about analyzing and interaction with the volunteers about their assigned home activity for that day. From 8pm to 9pm, cultural activities were conducted by the volunteers. The volunteers conducted a survey about Covid 19 and its impact and submitted a report.

In addition to the above activities NSS volunteers were sent for various activities and training programs namely palliative care, leadership camp, youth for development by Nehru Yuva Kendra. As part of palliative care the NSS volunteers gave Rs 3000 to cancer patient for chemotherapy. Several cleaning activities were conducted in the campus premises.

Pictures and Brochures2014-15, Soju S.L., one of our volunteer got a golden opportunity to participate in the Republic Day Parade at New Delhi.

 

During 2013, Jibin Jose attended the South Zone Pre Republic Day Parade camp at Salem.  During 2014, Soju S L participated in the Pre-R D selection Camp conducted at University Stadium Thiruvnanthapuram and got selection for the10 day State Level Selection Camp at Trissur. During 2015, Praveen A B attended for 10 days Pre-RD camp at Mysore.

Our volunteers received the Best NSS Volunteer award continuously for the last three years               (During 2014, Jibin G Jose,  2015 Soju S L and 2016 Praveen A B)  from University of Kerala.

During 2011 Sri. Sunil John, our programme Officer, Muhammed Sanooj, and Arya Sankar, NSS Volunteers and during 2014  Gokul J B and Jibin G Jose, during 2014 Aswathy and 2016 Neemu Jose participated in the National NSS Adventure camp at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and  allied Sports Manali. They successfully completed the Adventure Camp and acquired proficiency in elementary skills of Rock Climbing, Rappelling, River Crossing, Trekking, Camping, Jungle craft,  Survival and Leadership. The Adventure Training was conducted in the Wilderness of the Himalayas.

We are regularly conducting blood donation camps in the college to motivate the students for blood donation. During 2014, our unit received an award from All Kerala Blood Donors Society for conducting highest number of Blood Donation Camps.  Noopura Daniel, Akash S S and Roshin got  appreciation for donating maximum times during the period.

During 2012,  Agila G B and Roshin R S, During 2014, Praveen A B, Aswathy P L and Nithin Murali participated in Leadership Training Camp at Bishop Moore College, Maveelikkara. During 2016,Akash S S and Ajil Das attended three day NSS Volunteer Leadership Training camp at Government College Kariavattom.

            During 2014,Aswathy P.L., Aswathy P.G, and Nithin Murali attended the state level camp on skill development.

Our volunteers conducted a public awareness kiosk – open window at Central Railway station,  Thiruvananthapuram during 2014, for promoting the message of community mental health. Different outreach programmes were also organized and Janakeeya Maanaseeka Arogya Bodhavalkkarana Paripadi- at Jawahar Central School was one among them.

As a part of the 35th National Games in our state , our NSS unit also participated in mass awareness programme named RUN KERALA RUN.

The N S S Programme  Officers   participated in  the meeting held by  Kanjiramkulam Grama Panchyath to discuss the conduction  of Swachch Bharath Campaign and other programmess.  Dr. Rani L and Dr. Sindhu C A are leading the NSS unit of our college as Programme Officers.
