Profile of the Department

The Department of Economics has been functioning in the College ever since the starting of the college in 1982 when there was the Pre Degree Course only. Later when the Degree Course in Economics started in 1991, with Indian History and Political Science as Subsidiaries, this became a major department. From 2010 admissions, the annual system has been replaced by the Choice Based Credit and Semester System (CBCSS). Accordingly, the Department is offering the First Degree Programme in Economics under CBCSS.

Physical Infrastructure Facilities The staff room is equipped with three computers with internet facilities, two printers and a scanner. Two of the three classrooms have been set as Smart Classroom with the technical accessories

Extra curricular activities: The Department has an Economic Association with all the students of Economics as members. Every year, discussions on various current and relevant academic topics related to Economics are being conducted in the Department under the auspices of this association. All students are associated with various academic and social activities through WWS, ASAP, SSP, National Social Service (NSS), Nature Club, Women’s Club, Anti Narcotic Club, Literary Club etc.

Programmes Organised at Department Level:

1.     The Department has organized a  two day National Seminar on “Current Economic Issues and Development” on 24th and 25th of January 2012 

2.     The Department has organized Two Day National Seminar on “Kerala Economy: Issues Challenges and Prospects” on 5th and 6th 2013.

3.     One day workshop on “Data Sources and SPSS” conducted on 24th February 2014.

4.      Two day national seminar on “Trends in Kerala State Finances” organized by the Department on 30th and 31st December 2014.

5.     Two day national seminar on “ Goods and Service Tax and implications in India” organized by the department on 12th and 13th January 2016.
